It is one of the most common threats online, but it is also one of the most preventable once you understand how it works. What is malware, really?

Malware is short for “malicious software” — any program written to cause harm rather than help. That is the key idea. Malware is not magic and it is not a mysterious force. It is simply a program, like any other, except its instructions serve a criminal purpose.
